Twitter Lists feature is a unique way to organize your prospects on Twitter, or find new people. You can classify a group of people together in a list on Twitter which would help you get an eagle’s eye view of what they have been up to. So, Lists aren't just a fixed group of users, its much beyond that. You’ll see curated Twitter streams of the latest tweets from the user set that you have specified. Lists allow you to organize the people you're following into groups, and they even allow you to include people you're not following.

Types of Twitter lists

You can either create your own Lists or subscribe to Lists created by other users on Twitter.
The lists, that you’ll own, are of two types:

Private Lists:

Lists that are created for internal purposes and can only be seen by you. In case you create a list of the users who are your contenders and you want to keep an eye on them, you’d obviously want to maintain your privacy on what have you been tracking. Hence, we recommend giving such lists a private tag.

Public Lists:

Lists that are an open source on Twitter, it can be viewed and subscribed to by different users on Twitter. In addition, when you add someone to a public list, they’ll be notified about it.
